ABOUT THE PROGRAM

Created in 2001, the Graduate Program in Philosophy aims to train highly qualified professionals for research and teaching (especially for higher education) in the field of Philosophy. The Federal University of Bahia is located in Salvador, the state of Bahia, Brazil's first capital, and a city with a vibrant cultural offer and beautiful colonial architecture.

Since its inception, the Program has been centered on Contemporary Philosophy and is subdivided into three lines of research:

  • Epistemology and philosophy of language;
  • Philosophy and social theory;
  • Problems of phenomenology and hermeneutics.

However, the area of concentration in Contemporary Philosophy does not mean a departure from the history of philosophy. By Contemporary, we understand a philosophical problem's current pertinence or relevance, even if it is found in Modern or pre-Modern texts.
