How to Apply for a Postdoctoral Position at PPGF/UFBA

To undertake a postdoctoral program at PPGF/UFBA, candidates must follow specific steps and meet the requirements established by the institution. The Postdoctoral Program or Postdoctoral Internship at UFBA (PPD-UFBA) was instituted by the University’s Higher Council for Teaching, Research, and Extension, in accordance with Resolution No. 02/2013.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree issued by either national or international institutions. It is important to note that postdoctoral researchers do not establish an employment or official institutional relationship with the University. Candidates must either hold a scholarship granted by a national or international funding agency, or be a tenured professor at another university on paid leave during the postdoctoral period.

Each postdoctoral researcher must have a supervisor — a qualified PhD professor in the area of the proposed Work Plan — who can be consulted on this page.

Applicants must demonstrate their availability to carry out the activities described in the Work Plan, which must not exceed 20 pages and should include the research proposal as well as a description of any planned teaching activities.

Applications must be submitted to PPGF via secretariappgf@ufba.br, with copies to ppgf@ufba.br and the supervisor’s email. The PPGF Collegiate will evaluate the request and forward it for final approval by the Congregation of the Faculty of Philosophy and Human Sciences at UFBA.

Required documents:

  • Letter of acceptance issued by the supervisor;

  • Copy of the doctoral diploma;

  • Updated curriculum vitae (in Lattes format for Brazilians or foreign residents in Brazil);

  • Work Plan;

  • Declaration signed by the candidate, confirming their availability to carry out the proposed activities during the postdoctoral period.

The postdoctoral period may range from three to twelve months, with the possibility of renewal for an additional twelve months. Upon official completion of the postdoctoral program, the researcher must submit a Final Report of Activities to the Congregation, via PPGF, accompanied by a letter of endorsement from the supervisor and a list of academic output resulting from the research.

Exceptionally, in cases where the scholarship is extended by the funding agency, the postdoctoral appointment may last up to 60 months. To apply for this extension, proof of funding for the entire period is required.
